About the Hotel: It is the dream project of Madhusudan Ray (Engineer) and Dr.(Smt.) Aungsumitra Ray (Doctor- Gynaecologist) residing in Kolkata and that has been converted to reality. They visited the place in 1997 and were amazed to see the beauty of the Mountain and Kinnauri style of living at Kalpa. Golden Apple Kalpa is It consists of 10 double bed spacious rooms with large glass windows and is situated on the ancient Hindustan-Tibet trade route (i.e. upper road at Kalpa), away from the bustle of the village and amidst the apple orchard. The magnificent mountain ranges with snow capped peaks are clearly visible without any haze from all the rooms. The Restaurant at the hotel serves multi-cu sine dishes prepared hygienically and with all delicacy. The guests can take food in the flower garden under the blue sky and be amazed to see the beauty of the Great Himalayas. The safe natural spring water from higher altitude filtered through ultra-violet filtration system is provided for drinking and cooking. Supply of water is more than sufficient and naturally sourced. The hotel does not even store water in any under-ground reservoir and does not use any pump to supply water. It is free flowing through a pipe from a artesian well at much higher altitude to the distribution tank at the roof-top. One can have the luxury of taking bath in a large spotless clean bathroom with shower of hot water from electric geyser and wash clothes with the help of a washing machine (self-service). This hotel is preferred by many dignitaries, tour operators from all over the world.
The rooms are fully carpeted and cleaned regularly by Vacuum Cleaner to remove mites and spores. The rooms are also kept free from flies/insects which are very common in such an exotic fruit rich areas. The beds are sufficiently long and soft, covered with white pure cotton bed sheet which are machine washed and sun-dried regularly. Blanket and thick quilts keep the body warm during the nights, even during the snow fall time. The automatic electric blanket underneath the bed sheet (in selected rooms) keeps the bed warm throughout the night. In the evenings, the group can watch a film with DVD in the room or watch any channel of the TV with Tata-sky (in specific rooms). However, tranquility and serene beauty induce you to rediscover yourself and every human being starts thinking about realisation of a youthful life in oneself regardless of his/her age while staying at Kalpa.
The guests or visitors can use the computer for internet-use or downloading pictures for CD burning. One can avail the day long special mountain-safari to see Spiti valley and a naturally mummified body of a Lama in sitting posture (about 1000 years old) in a cave.
