Why Kalpa or Kinnaur is so important as a tourist destination?   Apart from Hindu mythological, spiritual, sociological, geographical and horticultural importance, Kalpa attracts the tourists from all over the world due to the mesmerizing beauty of the Great Himalayas which can be enjoyed from the room leisurely.

If Kalpa is so famous, why it is new in the tourism map? Kinnaur was the forbidden land. No one was allowed to enter without an Inner-line permit beyond Karchham. Such limitation has been withdrawn since 1995 only for the Indians. Even now, the foreign tourists need to have the permit to travel beyond Jangi i.e. towards Northern Kinnaur. However, foreign tourist flow is much higher.

How the hygiene is maintained in this hotel in respect of room, toilet, kitchen and food?

     Rooms are cleaned daily and the bed sheet, towels, etc., are changed daily at about 8 AM. The table-ware are mostly made of glass, so that it can be cleaned completely. The food is prepared freshly against order and no food or it's gravy are not stored for eventual use.

What is the state of health of the operating staff at this hotel and how it is monitored?  Staff health check up is done regularly. One renowned doctor of Kolkata is also a member of the management team.

Is there any scarcity of water in the hotel?  Not at all. There is no crisis of water at this hotel. The hotel does not have any underground reservoir fitted with elect. pump. We get natural spring water to the over-head tank directly from the spring for distribution to the rooms and water always overflows to the adjacent apple orchard.

What is the alternative to general power supply? As such, Himachal Pradesh is the largest producer of Hydro-electricity. However, there is sufficient number of stand-by emergency light.

Minimum how many days are required to cover all the places in Kinnaur. 6 days from Simla and back to Simla covering Sarahan, Sangla, Kalpa, etc.

Is there any restriction of tourist movement in the area?  No limitation for Indians. However, the foreign tourists need to have the permit to travel beyond Jangi i.e. towards Northern Kinnaur.

What are the medical facilities at Kalpa? There is a Primary Health Center at Kalpa with outdoor facility. The District hospital at Recong Peo is much bigger.

What are essential items the tourists should carry?  Full sleeve woolen sweater or jacket, Head cap, a pair of sun glasses, sun screen lotion, cold cream, etc. In winter, one should carry cots wool inner for leg as well as body, gloves and monkey cap, shoes.

What type of food items are generally available in Kinnaur or Spiti? Generally, all common Indian food items are available at Kalpa.

Can a tourist visit Kalpa without advance booking of room in a hotel? The tourist can visit Kalpa without advance reservation except Mid-May to Mid June and Mid-September to end of October. However, it is better to have advance reservation to get the rooms of guest's choice. Many foreigners as also domestic tourists visit Kalpa in group also at different time of the year. So scarcity of rooms occurs sometimes.

Which season is the best for visiting Kalpa? In true sense there is no best season for visiting Kalpa. It is a place where one can feel the effect of 4 seasons in a day. There is no summer like plains in Kalpa. Of course, the winter months are really intolerable. During Jan-Feb, many hotels, shops remain closed due to severity of cold and snow. We announce winter closing day after Diwali festival and reopen in March. The higher slopes of the mountain range remain snow covered throughout the year. Snow fall can be seen during Jan. - mid-April. May is the flowering and pollination season of apple, apricot, peach, etc. In September, apples are grown to full size and becomes ready for plucking. Usually October is the apple plucking season.

How much is the food cost?
      The food charges per person are given in the tariff page as CP, AP and AP. However, the guests may choose food items from the Menu.

How is the road condition from Simla to Kalpa and beyond?

      Fairly good road. It is National Highway 22 and maintained as a border road throughout the year.

What are the criminal activities which may cause distressful condition to the tourist?

    Not at all, at least in Kinnaur, Spiti areas.

What are the activities the tourist should not do while in Kinnaur? Not to trespass the apple orchard or plucking of apple. It a great punishable offence.

Is there any local transport in and around Kalpa? Yes. Bus and Mini buses are available during day time.

Can a tourist buy apples from the orchard owner or market at Kalpa? Usually not possible, since the fruits are sold to the apple traders much prior to its plucking stage.
